Siren Song : Spring Summer 2012 Trends

by Hayley Bevan on January 10, 2012

Givenchy SS2012

The  theme of water appears to have been the canvas for the spring-summer 2012 parades. The mythical siren sang beguilingly to designers to lure them into creating homage to herself and the aquamarine and cerulean sea realm. The models came  wrapped in clothes in the colors of the seabed, rebrodées and shimmering scales at Givenchy  with its wetsuit-like feel to the collection.

Chanel SS2102

Also ribbons in the shape of waves adorning the nymphs here at Chanel we felt the definite undercurrent of a  Botticelli  sea Goddess with iridescent mother of pearl, and strings of pearls encircling waists.

Chanel SS2012

Even the catwalk was adorned with waves and sea pebbles to create a marine feel.

versace SS2012

Prints which echoed ancient pottery and the myth of Poseidon at Versace.

versace SS2012

At Versace, materials, light as sea foam floated in a harmonious aquatic carousel, and seemed to blend, as in nature with their lines and hues the with the horizon of the sea and sky.

Alexander McQueen SS2012

The underwater magic did not stop there at Mcqueen we saw the emergence of another sea goddess, the oceanic life of Gaia was as fresh sea spray on the outfits composed of corals and shells.

All in all the shows were a fabulous dive into the deep blue for the Stylists at Gabrielle Teare who can’t wait to be adding a splash bringing next season’s biggest trend into our clients wardrobes.

Jewel Tones : What to wear : Autumn Winter 2011

by Hayley Bevan on August 14, 2011

Sapphire at Christopher Kane

With the end of a fashion season almost upon us, we can only start mourning the loss of all those summer brights and neon’s that made our grey British mornings a bit more bearable. However there may be a ray of light yet, for Autumn Winter designers were focusing on a lush jewel palette “colour has become the new black” said Roland Mouret.

 Sapphire at Diane Von Fustenburg

The autumn winter collections are saturated with rich, powerful, and mesmerising jewel tones, which infuse us with happiness and liberate us. From Emeralds, to midnight Amethyst, Scarlet Ruby and Garnet, to opulent Topaz.

Chanel showing Emerald

Designers took inspiration from the jewellery box, bringing us an array of glamorous pieces, in sophisticated styles, and luxurious fabrics. At each fashion capital we took in floor length evening gowns, cocktail dresses, and statement outerwear, all rendered even more lustrous in the hues of precious stones.

This sapphire dress by Yves Saint Laurent is the top of our wish list; fluid satin and a double layered front make it the perfect dress for every figure. It can be worn tied at the front or back and will make the ultimate statement with black accessories and an eye catching necklace.

This emerald silk-voile asymmetric dress is from Gucci and is undoubtedly one of the key pieces from the collection. With a nod to 70′s glamour, we suggest accentuating the deep colour with metallic accessories; this dress is in need of very high heels to carry of the dramatic thigh split.

This Gianbattista Valli wool, silk and cashmere dress is a testament to his ability to design for women and make them look stunning, clever draping will bring the eye upwards, chinch with a belt to define the waist, Complement the rich hue with luxe gold jewellery and glossy accessories for a polished look.

Christian Louboutin Platforms

As a Personal Shopper in London I am frequently in the shops. Last Wednesday I was doing a preview for some of my clients and was in a packed (what recession) Christian Louboutin shop in Knightsbridge.  I watched woman after woman trying to walk in 6.5” high platforms.

Burberry Prorsum Python Pumps

I was struck by how stupid, unstylish and lacking in elegance the women looked.  If you cannot stand in a shop to try on shoes they are going to be massively unwearable.  Look at how ugly these shoes actually are.

Versace Sandals

Then I visited the new shoe department this week in Selfridges with a client, and saw even more horrible shoes.  Trust me these are tranny shoes uncomfortable, and ugly and you will walk like a tranny if you try to wear them. Look at these from Versace?? Excuse me? Are we all deranged or not?

Charlotte Olympia Pumps

There is style. There is fashion…….. And then there is fashion victim. If you buy these you are going to look back in horror at what you wore. Don’t go there. It also strikes me as anti-women to literally hobble us in the recession maybe??

Lady Gaga clearly having a Bad Romance with these well named “Alien” shoes. Think hoof, think bunion. Leave Alexander McQueen alone.

Gwyneth-Paltrows-Shoes- Grammy Awards

Here is Gwyneth Paltrow ???????????? Ladies just vote with your feet go and find a sexy pair.
