Spring Summer 10

Tom Ford : Fashion’s Uber Star

by Hayley Bevan on January 23, 2011

Beyonce at Tom Ford

On that rather wet September evening the entrance to one of Madison Avenues most luxurious boutiques was framed by an array of black oversized umbrellas,  the greeters holding them  were a vision of pure understated suaveness in their unmistakably Tom Ford Black Tie ensembles. It was here that  Ford invited a select few of the voguish clique for a secret preview of his women’s wear Spring Summer 2011 launch.

The couture style presentation was so secret that there were to be no other photographers present other than Ford’s own campaign photographer Terry Richardson. Mere mortals on the other hand had to wait almost five months for the release of the much anticipated show.

Lara Stone at Tom Ford SS2011

The small and rather intimate runway was lined with gilded bamboo chairs, it was here that Anna Wintour, Joe Zee, Nina Garcia and Caren Roitfield, took in the show. The collection had femme fatale stamped all over it, and the catwalk line up was fabulous from the current pick of the most sought after faces like Karlie Kloss and Amber Valetta to a few notables such as Julianne Moore, Marisa Berenson, and Beyoncé, “women who inspire me” as Ford later explained.

the secrecy of the show was down to Ford feeling the need not to overexpose his clothes, and therefore maintaining their freshness. The collection was seductively sashayed in front of us in that unique Tom Ford aura, Karen Elson vocals accompanied the entrance of the leopard pantsuit, suede trench, and the stunning Cobalt blue silk fringe column dress, for the luxury lover there was a lot of silk georgette, 18kt gold, and hand painted python. We were over the moon and in love with the the black and white silk tuxedos, the corsets and the peekaboo gowns, every one sure to be snapped up by red carpet walkers. The details were impeccable with hammered gold jewellery and ankle strapped stilettos. All in all it was magnificent and it was the event of the season. There aren’t many other things other than the stylish image of Tom Ford himself that would make our hearts skip a beat, but this collection definitely does.

Jewellery : Sex And The City 2

by Hayley Bevan on July 12, 2010

THE HIDDEN GEM

The expected sound of car horns and the echoed hum of street life are the first sounds that transport you undoubtedly to a Park Avenue entrance.  A white v-neck Heritage by Halston dress outlines the streamlined figure of  a woman, D`eja` Vu?  Yes you’ve got it, the opening scene Sex and the City 2. As she raises her arm to flag down the only mode of transport the sex and city girls ever use, we notice the deco style necklace adorning her neck, brought to full effect by the simple lines of the dress. The necklace is a statement piece made of diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds. The creator of the piece however is far from the celebrity spotlight; she is the woman behind the jewels and the glittering personas who wear her latest sparkles.

Solange – Azugury Partridge started designing in 1990 and worked with Antique jewellery specialist Gordon Watson who introduced her vintage Cartier, Tiffany, and Van Cleef and Arpel.  Her designs are inspiring with a definite belle époque influence but with a strong contemporary effect, which does not overshadow the designers personal feelings that the Jewells represent.

The  recent opening of her Bond Street salon, which is hosting a series of events resonant of the premises 1970′s nightclub feel, with A- listers such as Jennifer Aniston and, Thandie Newton amongst her  disciples we have no doubt that London will make this hidden gem Sparkle eve more.

Jennifer Aniston wears the “Opal Fruit Bangle” pictured below, fantastic accessories for couture maxi dresses.

Summer Breeze……..

by Ella Catliff on March 31, 2010

Alexander Wang SS2010

Looking at some of the key trends for spring/summer 2010, I began to wonder if in fact the old adage that one must suffer for beauty was a thing of that past.

Alexander Wang SS2010

Alexander Wang was a particular front runner for the trend, sending his models down the catwalk in a variety of sporty styles, from modern takes on traditional all-American styles like the classic sweatshirt to the far more risky tracksuit bottom/ heels combination, a bold look on the catwalk but admittedly one that could spell potential disaster when it is inevitably replicated on the high street.

Proenza Schouler SS2010

Generally the concept of ‘sporty’ style may immediately conjure up images of adidas clad teenagers and suburban shopping malls, however it seems that this season the sporty look not only goes luxe – as demonstrated by the athletic glamour of Proenza schouler’s acid brights.

Lacoste SS2010

Lacoste, Hermes and Rochas all demonstrated a softer, more classical take on the trend. The oversized, cricket-jumper style dresses shown at Lacoste offering a more grown-up alternative to the day-glow patterns and spandex cycling shorts which may understandably strike fear into the hearts of fashionista’s everywhere.

Kenzo SS2010

It was not only the sport-inspired looks which hailed the start of a new era in which one can both look fabulous and feel at ease whilst wearing the most up to the minute styles.

For spring/summer 2010 designers are offering a variety of twists on this less restrictive trouser style, ranging from ballooning styles in a tribal print at Kenzo

Balmain SS2010

To cargo pants at Balmain, worn with a slouchy ripped T shirt, still stylish but  easy to wear.

Louis Vuitton Kitten Heels SS2010

It seems that we even have the option of choosing comfortable footwear over the sky scraper heels that have been the sartorial staple of the fashionable modern woman for so long.

Prada SS2010

The stiletto has not, nor ever probably will be considered passé, however judging by the mass of kitten heels, clogs, wedges and mid-height-heels that paraded the catwalks at Chanel, Miu Miu, Prada, Louis Vuitton and others.
