Mens Style To Impress : What to Wear Now

by Gabrielle on August 19, 2010

I love styling men, there are so many fantastic clothes out there. Men should wear great colours that suit them, cool designs and expensive shoes. I like Etro for shirts, jackets and coats. This is a great easy coat to wear for Autumn days.

Leather is hot for this Autumn. Zegna make great suits for a classic fit, and this season check out the leather shearling jackets. Prada, D and G, Etro, Armani all have versions. This jacket and chunky polo neck will make you look broader, taller and is very sexy.

Lanvin rocks! Each season visit for cool jackets, fabulous suits and uber stylish ties.If you have not yet been to Savile Row this season is the time to go.

Cheap shoes will drive women away trust me. The number of conversations women have about tasteless shoes would be a revelation to men. Several of my friends have rejected advances purely because of shoes! Prada make fantastic trainers and loafers. Alexander McQueen does a privately ordered range at Harrods. Cheap shoes cheapen the whole outfit. Buy less and buy good. For work shoes Church’s and Prada make nice shoes that if you are typical of the men I know will last for 10 years or more. Cost per wear becomes negligible. Women’s shoes cost far more and last about 6 months!

Also at Prada this season is lovely wearable autumnal colours. Combine a blue shirt with a soft brown jumper and jacket for effortless style. The jumper in the shops is longer!

Cashmere jumpers are lovely, and there are great colours out there for men, Dunhill, Aquascutum, with their new design team, Armani and Ralph Lauren all make fantastic designs. They are seriously nice to wear and soft to the touch- cuddly. Try the ones styled with a collar like a long sleeve polo shirt. Also hitting the shops are ski jumpers this is seriously nice from D and G.

Mens styling for very tall men is harder, there are many men out there over 6’4”, it has taken me ages to source clothes for them. High and Mighty is a good source but the suit quality and selection for slim men is poor. I suggest their Ralph Lauren range and to go elsewhere for bespoke tailoring for suits and shirts. The Italian suit maker Sartoria is great and reasonably priced. Segun Adelaja has clothes to dream about. Very elegant and sophisticated, classic with a twist. Timothy Everest, does a range at Marks and Spencers.

Ties again should be expensive, forget  polyester, big spots or “funny”ties go for silk. Buy Hermes, Lanvin, Salvatore Ferragamo, to instantly upgrade your look under £100.

Summer Breeze……..

Alexander Wang SS2010

Looking at some of the key trends for spring/summer 2010, I began to wonder if in fact the old adage that one must suffer for beauty was a thing of that past.

Alexander Wang SS2010

Alexander Wang was a particular front runner for the trend, sending his models down the catwalk in a variety of sporty styles, from modern takes on traditional all-American styles like the classic sweatshirt to the far more risky tracksuit bottom/ heels combination, a bold look on the catwalk but admittedly one that could spell potential disaster when it is inevitably replicated on the high street.

Proenza Schouler SS2010

Generally the concept of ‘sporty’ style may immediately conjure up images of adidas clad teenagers and suburban shopping malls, however it seems that this season the sporty look not only goes luxe – as demonstrated by the athletic glamour of Proenza schouler’s acid brights.

Lacoste SS2010

Lacoste, Hermes and Rochas all demonstrated a softer, more classical take on the trend. The oversized, cricket-jumper style dresses shown at Lacoste offering a more grown-up alternative to the day-glow patterns and spandex cycling shorts which may understandably strike fear into the hearts of fashionista’s everywhere.

Kenzo SS2010

It was not only the sport-inspired looks which hailed the start of a new era in which one can both look fabulous and feel at ease whilst wearing the most up to the minute styles.

For spring/summer 2010 designers are offering a variety of twists on this less restrictive trouser style, ranging from ballooning styles in a tribal print at Kenzo

Balmain SS2010

To cargo pants at Balmain, worn with a slouchy ripped T shirt, still stylish but  easy to wear.

Louis Vuitton Kitten Heels SS2010

It seems that we even have the option of choosing comfortable footwear over the sky scraper heels that have been the sartorial staple of the fashionable modern woman for so long.

Prada SS2010

The stiletto has not, nor ever probably will be considered passé, however judging by the mass of kitten heels, clogs, wedges and mid-height-heels that paraded the catwalks at Chanel, Miu Miu, Prada, Louis Vuitton and others.

Prada has announced the opening of a five-month temporary shop at Place Beauvau, in Paris, inspired by the French poet, Apollinaire.

5694_1207569391919_1309206175_583919_4431838_n_thumb[2]

The space was designed by Robert Baciocchi, and the spectacular facade is a reference to the image of Mirabeau bridge, the inspiration for one of Apollinaire’s most famous poems.

The ground floor is asbtract in nature with a rather elaborate motif. The carpeting and sofas have all been done in lilac complemented by bronzed-metal glass displays.

The two-storey shop also flaunts the black and white chequered marble floor belonging to the Milanese history, which was seen in the original Prada store on 1913.
