Beyond the Runway Award debuts at Nolcha Fashion Week: New York

New York, NY – August 12, 2010 – The competition now begins as the designers are announced for Nolcha Fashion Week: New York Spring/Summer 2011 Collections. The debut of the Beyond the Runway Award in association with LooseButton is an exciting opportunity for Nolcha Fashion Week: New York designer participants to catapult their small business with a company support package worth over $50,000.

The judging panel of esteemed industry professionals will select one brand from either the runway, Accessory Exhibition or Ethical Fashion Preview to receive an entrepreneurship accelerator package to the strengthen their company beyond the runway show through high quality resources and services.

The Award includes accounting by Ernst & Young, legal by Orrick, branding consultation by MSLK, Website design consultation by Studio Light and retail placement with LooseButton.

Nolcha Fashion Week: New York draws global attention as many countries are being represented by their top tier independent fashion talent; including India, Russia, England, South Africa, Hungary, Costa Rica and Australia among others. USA based brands include Maleku Jewelry, Liz Fields, Elly Clay, Evolve45 and M Brulee.

Lilly Berelovich is the co-founder of Fashion Snoops.      Lilly spent 10 years in the fashion industry as a kidswear and junior designer in New York and Montreal. In 2001, frustrated with the limited access that designers had to accurate and timely trend information, she launched Fashion Snoops.com Today, Lilly is the creative force behind Fashion Snoops, and applies the service to her work as a consultant for companies needing branding , positioning design and merchandising for labels in New York and around the globe. Lilly is also a renowned consultant for clients in the licensing world, creating licensing deals and providing trend direction .Lilly is a graduate of Fashion Design from LaSalle College and studied International Business at McGill University, both located in Montreal, Canada.

Sheri L Koetting is the co-founder and CEO of MSLK, a boutique marketing and design agency based in Long Island City, Queens. Drawing upon a background in fashion as well as graphic design, Sheri often incorporates unique materials and unexpected finishes to her projects. Sheri’s solutions gracefully solve the defined challenges and effortlessly create order without appearing to be designed.

Sheri has worked with clients such as Aveda, Loro Piana, MOP Modern Organic Products, Ralph Lauren, Sean John, Sephora, and Victoria’s Secret. She has been honored with awards from the AIGA / the professional association for design, Communication Arts, Graphic Design USA, Mohawk Fine Papers, Print Magazine, Society for Environmental Graphic Design, the Type Directors Club, the US Congress, Visual Merchandising + Store Display, and The Webby Awards.

Ray Cao is the Co-Founder and CEO of LooseButton. Previously, Ray was the president of the Impact Entrepreneurship Group, now Canada’s largest youth-run entrepreneurship organization. In his role as president, he founded the Global Entrepreneurship Week Canada campaign. Ray has dabbled with the mix of working for companies as well, from growing a mobile startup called Polar Mobile to working as a trader on Wall Street at Barclays Capital. He realized, however, that it was much more fun building companies.

When he is not working on LooseButton, Ray is involved as a board member for the Impact Entrepreneurship Group and is an advisor to VeloCity – a leading technology incubator run by the  University of Waterloo. He was recently appointed to the DiverseCity Steering Committee which consists of prominent individuals in the Greater Toronto Area who recognize the value and potential of diversity in leadership for the region’s social and economic prosperity. Ray is a past recipient of Waterloo’s Top 40 Under 40 award.

Nolcha: Fashion Business Services continues to support the work of Amaka Showroom for the independent fashion market by selecting five British designers to show their latest AW10 collections alongside Amaka’s newest designers. The event will also serve as the launch of ‘Donate a Design’ to HEAL Africa as led by Emesha and Bel Esprit.
 
Amaka is a multi-label showroom, based in Central London – showcasing some of the best of British and International independent designers.  The 19th Feb Showcase event will see collection debuts from 5 designers.

Britain’s Got Talent star Amanda Holden and  Personal Stylist Gabrielle Teare are  to judge fashion competition as the iconic butler Jeeves asks for even more wardrobe options. Internet search engine Ask Jeeves and Nolcha: Fashion Business Services are searching for aspiring designers to create even more wardrobe options for iconic butler, Jeeves.

Jeeves is traditionally known for his suited attire, but in the run up to London Fashion Week Ask Jeeves are asking all budding designers to send in their ideas for a new fashion forward look for their brand ambassador.

The winning design will be modelled by Jeeves on the Ask Jeeves homepage and supported by a theme design which will be added to the Ask Jeeves theme gallery.

Also among the judges is actress Amanda Holden, of Britain’s Got Talent fame, who commented:  “I’m thrilled to be judging the Dress Jeeves competition.  Jeeves is an iconic character and a sartorial dream. I can’t wait to see entrants’ creations. It’s a great chance for someone to showcase their talents and create an outfit for one of the best dressed men in Britain.”

The designs will be reviewed by an esteemed panel of judges and the competition provides a fantastic opportunity for the public to get their designs in front of some of the most respected names in the fashion industry.

The judges include Lee Lapthorne of ON/Off, Personal Stylist Gabrielle Teare, Neely Reyes founder of Sapphires Model Management and Lynn Furge, Creative Director of Nolcha.com.

Lee saw the need to bridge the gap between on schedule and off schedule designers during London Fashion Week and in 2003 established On|Off at the Royal Academy of Arts. Run by Lee’s creative agency doll, 13 Seasons on, On|Off is now considered the life blood of British Fashion and is the showcase for UK and International emerging talent as well as established designers such as Jasper Conran, Gareth Pugh, Karen Walker, Pam Hogg, Mark Fast alike.

On|Off is now showcased in London, Milan and Paris. As one of the country’s leading fashion and event management experts, Lee was chosen by Channel 5 as the catwalk mentor for its hit series ‘Make Me a Supermodel’, appeared on GMTV’s ‘Top Model’ competition for the past 3 years, Project Catwalk ‘The Passions of Girls Aloud’ and most recently Britain’s Next Top Model . Lee is also an industry spokesman for Gillette.

Neely Reyes Sapphire Models

Neely Reyes is the founder of award¨winning, Sapphires Model Management, an agency that has worked with and provided models for some of the biggest names in the industry: Selfridges, House of Fraser, Umberto Giannini, Uniqlo with Daisy de Villeneuve, Drapers/WGSN Fashion Summit 2009, a project with Harvey Nichols, Dougray Scott, Billy Boyd, Jamelia, and Adam Garcia, and a selection of large publication houses.

Sarah Bartlett, marketing director for Ask Jeeves, said: “We are looking for the best creative and eye catching designs that showcase the designers’ individual talent. The competition is open to absolutely everyone, from professional designs and design students to the general public, the only stipulation is you must be aged 16 or over.”

The judging panel will look at all the entries sent in and select four finalists, with Ask Jeeves users selecting the final winning design.

Lynn Furge

Lynn Furge, Creative Director Nolcha.com began her career 11 years ago as a fashion photographer. Specializing in trend analysis and taking new emerging brands and giving them Global Recognition, Furge worked hand and hand with each client to create an entire concept and not just one photo.

Client’s included: Maxim and Stuff Magazines, German Marie Claire, 944 Magazine, Marshall Field’s and Company, Harry Winston, Hummel Sportswear, and more. She continues to work with independent designers on branding their image and business to the global marketplace.
