SUMMER STYLE: The White Stripes!

by Michael Mulligan on May 17, 2012

Nautical and Breton stripes are a classic way to keep your style clean and chic this summer. Don’t think full on sailor suit, instead opt for well tailored simple pieces in simple stripes. These summery stripes are also a great way to incorporate this seasons trends for sporty details and crisp whites.

This zipper swimsuit by Lisa Marie Fernandez is great – it has that cool, sports chic feel. Team with these retro-inspired sunglasses for a glamorous pool-side look. Simple striped tunic dresses (like this one by Aubin & Wills) are a great investment – They’ll keep you stylish for summers to come.

A simple white summer dress is great for teaming with stripes, especially if you prefer bold patterns in smaller doses. Go for a pretty striped cardigan on the cooler days, or cinch in your waist with a sporty striped belt.

Keep it casual with structured white trousers – Pinstripes are classic and flattering great for any age. Floppy hats are big this summer and can add elegance to both casual and dressed-up outfits.

.

Cool Breton stripes have a tendency to look casual. If you want to take this look into the evening you don’t have to play by the rules. This Cavalli dress with sheer striped panels is perfect for grown up glamour. Think outside the box, strappy sandals and pleated accessories add will add complimentary finishing touches to a striped look.

Mens Fashion The Summer Wine

by Michael Mulligan on May 11, 2012

Fresh from the menswear shows it seems that wine-like red and purple tones are to be firmly in place as an on trend colour for men this year. Rich burgundy, deep crimson, bold brights and dusty maroons were just a few of the red shades on show for the season. My favourites here are Salvatore Ferragamo’s quilted red sweater and Emporio Armani’s deep, reflective coat.

I love these colours. They are great for adding vibrant colour to your look, but they can also work wonders as an accent colour so this is a trend that guys everywhere can work into their outfits seamlessly. If you want to keep it casual, go for simple red pieces like the Polo Ralph Lauren  shirt or jumper from Topman. For a higher fashion edge, choose rich textured red fabrics, like corduroy, velvet (like this Alexander McQueen blazer) or silk.

Red has already become one of the years best selling colours for men and there are plenty of options to suit all personalities and price ranges – From Alexander McQueen and Ralph Lauren to Asos and Topman.

christian louboutin

Sculpted with folded panels, this number by Bottega Veneta this dress will make a stylish addition to your work wear wardrobe, the black grosgrain knot belt will add an elegantly defined silhouette, to take this look from day to night, I would style it with these gorgeous Christian Louboutin burgundy patent-leather pumps with a fashion shot of glamorous sparkle with their crystal-dipped heels, fabulously classic with a twist.

Dolce and Gabbanna shearling bag

To add a definite feel of decadence to this outfit I would style it with a decadent accessory like Dolce & Gabbana’s shearling and textured-leather tote, which as a Stylist I can guaranteek it’s the hottest way to make a statement this season.

Roksander Ilincic

This is one of my favourite dresses,  Roksanda Ilincic always designs dresses that look absolutely stunning on, in a palette of off-white, navy and orange, this is a definite fashion lover’s choice. Mens Style Autumn Winter 2011

by Gabrielle on August 2, 2011

Mens Fashion

As a Personal Shopper I am constantly on the look out for great mens clothes. So what is in the shops right now? This is a superb navy shirt from Marc Jacobs that rocks in heavy cotton.

For this gorgeous August sunshine try a linen shirt with shorts. This faded red shirt from Hartford will look great with blue, white or beige shorts.

My favourite Mens Shorts are from Boggi Milano. These are also nice from Polo Ralph Lauren.

My favourite jeans at the moment are charcoal black from Acne, black jeans will always look smarter than blue if you are doing smart casual.

Lovely chinos can be found at Canali and also at Incotex who manufacturer for Ralph Lauren at a much cheaper price.

Mens Knitwear

From France is a gorgous sexy sweater from Maison Martin Margeila  I love the shawl collar.

I love Italian style this is a superb piece of Etro tailoring and looks amazing on.

Autumn Winter Trends 2011 :1940′s Fashion

by Gabrielle on August 1, 2011

I love 1940’s fashion. Recently commenting for The Guardian on Glamour of the Gods I noted how relevant it is to what we wear today. Here is Kate Moss on this months Vogue.co.uk looking so elegant and stylish in a beautiful 1940’s style dress from Miu Miu.

From Mark Jacobs we have witty pretty little suits perfectly matched ladylike gloves, collar, hat and hosiery and look at that stylish hand bag lovely.

At Gucci there is sublime sensual fox fur in gorgeous wine, to match a cerise dress topped with a wonderful mauve Homberg hat. The key to wearing this is in the details, colours are matched, gloves, hats, bags provide the essential extras and the whole adds up to elegant style.

John Galliano shows us the importance of tailoring. Here topped with a stylish French beret the silhouette is sculpted to show off the hourglass figure. Very feminine and very flattering.

Lanvin rocks and this season it does not disappoint check the hat, gloves and bag all in scale and perfectly proportioned coupled with a supple leather shift dress superb.

Some of us are ahead of the Fash Pack, here is me wearing vintage Christian Dior outside Christopher Kane in Sept 2010!!

The Little Pale Dress

by Lauren Waine on November 28, 2010

Another strong contender for the LBD’s fashion crown has emerged, as dresses go pale and interesting for the winter. Celebrities including Alexa Chung, Keira Knightly and Kate Winslet have all recently made the LPD stylish Red Carpet uniform. Champagne, Ivory, Vanilla and Pearl hues dominated the catwalks, with designers such as Marc Jacobs, Alberta Ferretti and Diane Von Furstenberg all opting for creamy shades.

(L-R; Valentino, Diane Von Furstenberg, Alberta Ferretti)

Fair-skinned fashionistas need not fear this season’s muted palette, as light shades of gold give warmth to porcelain skin, giving a fresh, youthful glow.

(L-R; Alberta Ferretti, Marc Jacobs, Dior)

New Nudes may be this season’s chicest alternative to the Little Black Dress, but if you’re still not convinced, just follow these simple rules to conquer this barely-there dress code:
Compliment your skin tone; selecting the right pale shade is the most important aspect of the trend. English roses should opt for peach hues whilst darker skin types should choose richer, caramel shades.

Keep it simple;

Stick to one neutral shade to avoid the risk of the colours washing each other out. Embellishment should be subtle so not to overpower the look.

Add texture;

LPD’s on the catwalk came in a variety of textures, from floaty, weightless chiffon, to body-con Lycra, making the trend both interesting and wearable.
Don’t be afraid of colour:

Adding bold elements to a nude dress can instantly update this trend. Whether it be neon accessories or vibrant lipstick shades, an unexpected pop of colour can keep the trend modern and minimalist without washing you out. During the daytime, wearing a pair of classic black sunglasses or striking smoky eye makeup would be a way to counteract any overly cutesy pale dress. One carefully-chosen accessory is enough to alter the look completely to suit your individual style. The jury is still out on whether to pair them with American Tan tights though.

CEW(UK) Beauty Awards 2010 Winners

I was honoured to attend the CEW(UK) Beauty Awards at the Intercontinental Hotel. The awards ceremony was packed full of the most glamorous beautiful people obviously using lots of beauty products! Every year the 700 members of the CEW test the products and vote on line. The major press, beauty companies, then attend a glowing award ceremony.

Here are the ones I have tried and recommend. All for Eve won 3 Categories and is a range of unperfumed crèmes raising money for Gynaecological cancer. Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare is a lovely range and deservedly this also won 3 awards. Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair synchronized Recovery Complex won Best New Skincare Treatment Prestige Product. While St Tropez won in two categories and was the first brand to win in a mass and prestige category for its Wash Off Instant (Mass) and Everyday Gradual Tan Mousse (Prestige). Dolce and Gabanna The Make Up won Best New Prestige Brand, and Diorskin Nude foundation won best new prestige makeup product. I have tried both these brands and would heartedly recommend the Diorskin foundation I love it! It will replace Chantercaille in my makeup bag.

The lovely Elemis range won best British brand and of course Clarins Beauty Flash Balm won best iconic product. Mark Jacobs Lola won best fragrance Prestige.

Marc Jacobs NY Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2010

by Gabrielle on February 17, 2010

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs wowed New York with a simple elegant collection. I am not so keen on socks with shoes to my eye looks naf!

marc jacobs Aw2010

This is immensely flattering, sparingly cut tailoring. Lovely, Spartan greys will warm winter skies.

Marc jacobs 3

This however is not flattering. As a Personal Stylist when you make tall, slim models look short and fat my clients won’t buy it and neither would I. A Line skirts mid calf lengths all serve to round out the body not a good look ever for anyone under 5`10”.

Marc Jacobs 4

New York like London has been freezing and so once again furs and velvets dominate the collections. Brrrrrrrrrrr. We need to be warm.

Marc Jacobs 5

To finish the show, long glittering evening gowns in silver, yellow and ecru Mmmmmmmmm…..
