Autumn Winter Trends 2011 :1940′s Fashion

by Gabrielle on August 1, 2011

I love 1940’s fashion. Recently commenting for The Guardian on Glamour of the Gods I noted how relevant it is to what we wear today. Here is Kate Moss on this months Vogue.co.uk looking so elegant and stylish in a beautiful 1940’s style dress from Miu Miu.

From Mark Jacobs we have witty pretty little suits perfectly matched ladylike gloves, collar, hat and hosiery and look at that stylish hand bag lovely.

At Gucci there is sublime sensual fox fur in gorgeous wine, to match a cerise dress topped with a wonderful mauve Homberg hat. The key to wearing this is in the details, colours are matched, gloves, hats, bags provide the essential extras and the whole adds up to elegant style.

John Galliano shows us the importance of tailoring. Here topped with a stylish French beret the silhouette is sculpted to show off the hourglass figure. Very feminine and very flattering.

Lanvin rocks and this season it does not disappoint check the hat, gloves and bag all in scale and perfectly proportioned coupled with a supple leather shift dress superb.

Some of us are ahead of the Fash Pack, here is me wearing vintage Christian Dior outside Christopher Kane in Sept 2010!!

All Hail McQueen!!!

by Tracy Kawalik on September 20, 2010

This morning the fashion world paid tribute to the late great Lee Alexander McQueen. A year since McQueen’s passing and its still all too clear the effect that he has had on so many, as the glittering line of his A-list loved ones filed in to St.Paul’s Cathedral.

Long time friends Daphne Guinness, and Sarah Jessica Parker were in attendance among others close to McQueen’s heart such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, jewellery designer Shaun Leane and milinier Philip Treacy who contributed to the prayers.

Philip Treacy shared the loss of their great friend, and accomplished stylist Isabella Blow with McQueen, 3 years previous to his death. Isabella first discovered Lee Alexander McQueen, purchasing his first collection in its entirety.

Anna Wintour, famed Editor-in-Chief paid tribute this morning by sharing sentimental words with the congregation.

Speaking of his childhood not far from the cathedral she said “As a child he loved nothing more than sitting on the rooftop and watching birds fly by,” She went to say “He showed us everything was possible; dreams could become reality. But he has left us with an even more exceptional legacy, a talent that soared like the birds of his childhood above us all.”

Bjork gave an outstanding performance of the ethereal Gloomy Sunday dressed as an angel while the congregation recited Amazing Grace, I Vow To Thee My Country and Jerusalem.

Friend Annabelle Nielson said: “He kept true to who he was and where he came from. Lee made the impossible possible. He was the greatest designer this country has ever produced.” said friend Annabelle Nielson

Designer Lingerie

by Gabrielle on September 16, 2010

As a stylist I know that good underwear makes or breaks an outfit. Great dresses can be ruined if the line is wrong. It also makes me feel desirable, sexy and elegant. Looking at what is new I found this lovely bra at Lingerieplease.co.uk from Gossard. It is called the Georgiana Balconette and is in lovely black and gold.

La Lilouche is a very new designer label  with Luxurious high quality lingerie in the boutique, where you can find beautiful hand finished silk lingerie pieces that are as sophisticated as they are erotic. from designer bras to the perfect babydoll for a  Romantic night in!

They  create only  limited editions collections using 100% silk fabrics, satin silk, Chantilly laces, with  exquisite details of ribbons, beads, swarovski crystals ,with each individual piece hand finished. Lalilouche.com

New at Selfridges exclusively is Pussy Glamore, featuring shades of pastel sea foam and truffle, with a delicate black lace detail and intricate edging, each bra is finished off with a back bow.  Both colour ways include thongs, bras and suspender belts, with the sea foam collection including a sexy nightie, to keep you looking and feeling cool between the sheets.

Whilst my favourite for French Lingerie in the UK is Agent Provocateur. With hugely successful models like Kate Moss, Alice Delall, Helena Christianson and Recently Pixie Geldof showing how to sizzle in style.

Agent Provacateur was founded by Joseph Corre, the son of Vivienne Westwood and his now ex-wife Serena Rees in 1994. The first store was opened in Soho with aims of selling high-end lingerie.

The Chanel Jacket

by Gabrielle on May 15, 2010

Beyonce Chanel Jacket

I bought my first Chanel Jacket in my 20′s. It is red, vintage and absolutely beautiful.  Top of my list for items every woman should have or aspire to have is a Chanel jacket. Here is my homage to a classic that has been going strong for over 80 years. Here is Beyonce showing how to wear it with shorts and Louboutin’s. I think that this is not chic but I love the jacket!

Lily Allen in Prada hat and Chanel Jacket looking sloppy.

As a stylist, this is Penelope Cruz showing how not to wear Chanel. She is not tall enough to carry this off, the jacket and skirt are both too long for her so she looks mumsy.
