Kate Middleton’s Style : Hit or Miss?

by Gabrielle on August 16, 2011

As The Leading London Personal Shopper  I frequently comment in the press on Celebrity Style. Kate Middleton does not feel she needs a stylist so what is the verdict on Kate Middleton’s style chic or cheap?

 Kate Middleton  Dress

This dress is frankly cheap. It is being worn to a major black tie event and is inappropriate for the then fiance of the future King of England. it would work for a secretary at a Company do.   The embellishment is too heavy, the jacket is too big and overall does not work.

Kate Middleton Street Fashion

Kate Middleton Fashion

This is another dreadful outfit. The grey comfy cardi, baggy enough to cover a stomach and hips of a heavier woman looks old fashioned and makes her look much older than her years. This is a beautiful woman in the prime of life.

Kate Middleton Zara dress

This is yet another cheap and frankly nasty outfit. This dress from Zara does not fit, flatter and the A line shape and wide sleeves serve to make her look fatter and older than she is. No stylist would choose this for someone in the public eye. Kate Middleton is representing the UK and needs to seriously up her game. Using a Personal Shopper or Personal Stylist is a must for anyone regularly photographed.

Kate Middleton Suit

Kate Middleton Hobbs Suit

This is Kate Middleton in a high street Hobbs suit. Hobbs has a much older target consumer group i.e. 35-55 Kate is 27. Thus the effect is dull, makes her look older and has zero wow factor or sex appeal.

Pippa Middleton Dress

Pippa Middleton Dress

This honestly is the dreary sisters. Bear in mind that both are mid to late twenties. These print “safe” dresses are more appropriate for women 30 years older. Pippa Middleton can and should look amazing.

There are great clothes to be had on the high street but she needs to up her spend a bit and choose clothes that are classic with a twist. Kate Middleton’s’ style is naturally classic but she can and should do better. Hire a stylist buy less spend a bit more look chic. This is how she does style well.

This is a stunning dress, she looks every inch the future wife of the King of England.

This outfit looks young, chic and elegant. The first wow casual outfit shown that will and did wow the press.

This is another great dress, clearly not from the high street and clearly fashion forward.

Christian Louboutin Platforms

As a Personal Shopper in London I am frequently in the shops. Last Wednesday I was doing a preview for some of my clients and was in a packed (what recession) Christian Louboutin shop in Knightsbridge.  I watched woman after woman trying to walk in 6.5” high platforms.

Burberry Prorsum Python Pumps

I was struck by how stupid, unstylish and lacking in elegance the women looked.  If you cannot stand in a shop to try on shoes they are going to be massively unwearable.  Look at how ugly these shoes actually are.

Versace Sandals

Then I visited the new shoe department this week in Selfridges with a client, and saw even more horrible shoes.  Trust me these are tranny shoes uncomfortable, and ugly and you will walk like a tranny if you try to wear them. Look at these from Versace?? Excuse me? Are we all deranged or not?

Charlotte Olympia Pumps

There is style. There is fashion…….. And then there is fashion victim. If you buy these you are going to look back in horror at what you wore. Don’t go there. It also strikes me as anti-women to literally hobble us in the recession maybe??

Lady Gaga clearly having a Bad Romance with these well named “Alien” shoes. Think hoof, think bunion. Leave Alexander McQueen alone.

Gwyneth-Paltrows-Shoes- Grammy Awards

Here is Gwyneth Paltrow ???????????? Ladies just vote with your feet go and find a sexy pair.

Lanvin 2010

What to buy now for AutumnWinter 2010? As the Leading London Personal Stylist, I know that the very best fashions sell within the first month of hitting the shops.  For me, it is so exciting to go to the shows and then see the clothes in the shops; I remember them all over again. So what is Haute now?? Always in winter there is a lot of black but this year there is a big baroque romantic vibe, with deep rich reds, clarets, navy, orange, camel, soft greys, whites. This theme comes into the fabrics with wonderful velvet, lace, fur, sheer and sexy silks. The romance continues with capes of every kind, ruffles, and wide swinging 50’s and 40’s style skirts.  There is something for everyone, many of the styles will be much easier to wear than the maxis and jump suits in the shops now, you don’t have to be so tall to look amazing!

Balmain Aw2010

Fabulous Fur,

Fur is glamorous, sensual and after last winter warm as toast!!  From Balmain, showing mauve fun furs, to impressive full length fox at Michael Kors, fur was everywhere.  I have always loved fur ever since I saw virtually every woman wearing it whilst shopping in Milan.  Whether you choose a fur collar and cuffs detailing, to a massive shaggy voluminous coat from Lanvin, fur has been showing for the past few years and looks like a trend that is here to stay. This is an investment buy so choose carefully and buy what you love.  Go for style rather than high fashion for a look that lasts. If you don’t want to wear fur then feathers are an option.

Antonio Beradi AW2010

Voluptuous Velvet

Velvet adds a luxurious touch to a black jacket at Rochas transforming it into a statement piece. For evening velvet always looks so classically rich, elegant and expensive. Not for nothing was velvet a favourite of Royalty. The wonderful wine red dresses at Antonio Beradi are sexy, figure hugging and look amazing.  My money is on the D & G collection to walk out of the shops, it is impossible not to like this simple stunning party dress.

Miu Miu AW2010 Romantic

Romantic

Fashion has not finished with the ruffles of last season, in amongst the severe blacks there were also many delicate lace numbers which will add feminity to your wardrobe. Miu Miu showed ice grey, whilst Dior and D&G had layers of ruffles on many dresses.  This is a seductive look, especially in sheer whites and blacks.

Haakan AW2010 Sheer Black

Sheer Black

Underneath tailored jackets were see through fine fabrics, see-through in the cold winter months seems an unreasonable trend. However combine with fur or the new shearling bomber jackets it becomes more wearable.  Choose nude underwear for a seamless look or wear black lace or plain black for a sexier look. Balmain showed how to look elegant by teaming the sheer top with a bow tie, brocade trousers and a beautiful leather jacket.  Giambattista Valli combined miniskirts with short donkey jackets over the sheer top. My favourite show was Haakan. His clothes simply sizzled with pure sex appeal. Lara Stone was cheered by all the press pack when she wore this sheer black dress easy to see why!!

Louis Vuitton AW2010

Post War Excess

Marc Jacobs in New York and at Louis Vuitton went back to the New Look first shown by Dior in the 50’s. The waist was nipped in above a big big A line  mid- calf skirt. This look suits taller women best, as it will swamp shorter petite types.  Also seen in many ball dresses on the catwalk, this is a trend that is easier to wear as a full length gown.

Issa London AW2010

Capes

Wonderful swirling capes and cloaks will form a different choice for an evening or day coat, this are bold, glamorous and have a highway man drama about them. Shown at Celine, Halston and Chloe amongst others this look will suit everybody. There were claret and black velvets, camels and black wool with wonderful embellishments. My favourite is the wonderful bright red Issa cape. There was an appreciative buzz when this was shown on the catwalk. Here the cape is combined with black leather trousers and a high roll neck. Easy, elegant and affordable style.

Burberry Prorsum Aw2010

Shearling

Shearling bomber jackets and coats provide a casual alternative to fur. At Burberry they were combined with sheer little dresses. Whilst Giles showed lovely asymmetric hemmed soft white jackets.  IN NYC, DKNY simple fitted black shearling jackets proved that this trend can be elegant. Like fur this is warm, practical fashion for everyone.

WHAT TO WEAR NOW-PERSONAL STYLIST CHOICE AW09

by Gabrielle on November 5, 2009

Dolce and Gabbanna AW09

Dolce and Gabbana aw09

When Personal Shopping all my clients want a dream dress. One, that makes your heart sing. One that makes you look thinner, taller, more beautiful…… This is it. The instore version has no belt and is sleeveless. It comes in rippling black silk, dusky rose with burgundy, or fuschia pink. Dolce and Gabbana dresses are a big favourite of mine lots of structure makes everyone look amazing!!

Paul and Joe

Pierre Cardin for Paul and Joe

The fashion pack at London Fashion Week were all wearing sequin jackets. Alexander Shulman Editor of Vogue wore silver over a blue T Shirt. This is the nicest version I have seen. Midnight blue and fitted- really gorgeous.

DKNY

DKNY

For Xmas at DKNY a spectacular sizzling red number. This is so easy to wear, skims over the tummy, cut slim at the sides for maximum flattery, slims, elongates  and its fun!!

Balmain AW09

Balmain AW09

This is my personal favourite of the Balmain dresses. Sensational cut, sensational colour and pricey!! Lots of copies around but this is undoubtably the best.

Burberry Prorsum AW09

Burberry Prorsum AW09

Yesterday I was walking down Sloane Street with a friend who was taking photos for Vogue. I have lost count of the number of people I have seen wearing this dress……or the snood with black jeans and black top……. or the boots which I personally hate!! Add it together=maximum chic. Also often spotted the mac with the pie crust collar in soft grey.

Victoria Beckham AW09

Victoria Beckham AW09

We should all support our own and Brit Victoria Beckham has created an instant sell out collection. Everyone bought dull grey but look at the burgundy, much more interesting!

Pinko AW09

CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

by Gabrielle on September 23, 2009

Burberry2 (2)

Leading Personal Stylist Gabrielle Teare  at Burberry Prorsum critiques Celebrity Style. Photographed by Darryl Vides Kennedy. Here is Emily Watson in Burberry, as their new face she stole the show and outclassed the fashionistas, simply stunning! HIT AND HOT!!

Burberry48 (2)

Jaquetta Wheeler chose Velvet!! Must have been reading my blog!! Velvet in regal royal purple looked amazing and accentuated her aristocratic face. Lovely!! HIT HIT.

Burberry30 (2)

Mary Kate Olsen dress needed a short chic jacket,  not this winter black coat, and the glasses are too heavy for her face, boots look wrong with the elegance of the dress and indeed the warm evening. MISS MISS.

Burberry28 (2)

Model Agyness Deyn in Burberry looked beautiful but just too like a 50’s housewife wearing a party frock. The pop socks look plain and awful, the brogue boots are too heavy for the dress. The jacket’s padded shoulders are Spring Summer defined but the colour clashes with the dress, as does the bag. Overall MISS MISS.

Burberry74 (2)

Liv Tyler wore a boyfriend jacket and short skirt and looked wonderful. Close up her luminous skin and just got out of bed hair made her utterly beautiful. And this is an amazing photograph from Darryl- well done!! HIT

Burberry4 (2)

Lee Na Young the Korean actress wore a 50’s style dress, but the  heavy winter too- warm wool coat made her look pear shaped and short. This look is not helped by sturdy boots which also shorten the leg. Leave this style to the naturally tall and leggy. MISS.

Burberry57 (2)

Jasmine Guiness looked chic, glamorous  and tall in a Chinese Nehru collar jacket over matching coloured dress. The colours beautifully celebrated her dark glossy hair. The black clutch and oversized pearl ring added elegance and feminity. HIT!!

Burberry35 (2)

Presenter Donna Air wore a bronze dress that looked as if it was made from a dish scourer!  The DULL DULL colour  did not suit her skin tone. The badly fitting skirt did not flatter as the A line was too wide, and  the boots killed the outfit. MISS MISS!!!! Come see Gabrielle Teare  Personal Stylist and learn the colours and shapes that suit you.

Burberry67 (2)

This is a very interesting choice of dress for Lady Victoria Hervey, the silver does not suit her skin tone. However she has gold thread in it and a stunning gold necklace which add warmth and allow her to literally shine. HIT HIT!! Next time choose gold, less effort and a better effect. This is the second time in two days she has worn gold and silver together.

Burberry6 (2)

The normally uber-chic Carine Roitfeld Editor of French Vogue has broken some major style rules here. Whilst being in fashion, the combination of deep V neckline and shoulder pads create a triangle effect and accentuate her rather pointed chin. MISS MISS! Needs a  Fashion Stylist!

Burberry5 (2)

Peter Mandleson, the Prince of Darkness trying to pretend that brown and beige go together and no one will notice this.  A large proportion of men are colour blind, but trust me women always notice.   Needs mens styling! MISS.

Burberry16 (2)

Alexa Chung in Burberry Prorsum looked amazing!! HIT HIT. Dress and Mac work, the colours compliment each other and her skin tone. Fabulous.

Burberry40 (2)

Anna Wintour is clearly having a gold moment since she has worn it every time I saw her this week!! However, it suits her skin tone and hair, the gold jewellery compliments and adds feminity. The sunglasses look wrong and slightly ridiculous, it was 7.30 in the evening and dark!! This is not Chic.

The only other person I have seen wearing sun glasses at night is Jack Nicholson and he looked equally ridiculous. However when he laughed and showed his  sexy vulpine teeth all the women just did not care. Funny that!!

MISS MISS MISS!  ANNA,  Purleese accessories should suit the occasion and that includes sunglasses.

Burberry85 (2)

I like Victoria Beckham she is an Aries like me and is warm, funny and often looks amazing. One of my favourite quotes, to Naomi Campbell when asked “Why do people call you posh? Victoria replied “Why do people call you beautiful? Love it!!

Victoria often looks fab and her clothes line is great as well. The first season the material was shoddy and I personally hated the zips running down to the hemline, made the dress so hard to put on. This season her collection looks great and is much better quality.

However, Victoria looks like an emaciated waif in this. Stick to body con and waisted tight numbers that suit the hourglass. MISS MISS

Burberry21 (2)

Freda Pinto wowed the jaded and tired Fashion week crowd in Burberry Prorsum. Shoes were to die for. Fantastic! HIT HIT
