All my favourite underwear is French. The Lingerie Department in Galerie LaFayette is a real treat!! Look at this wonderful feathers dressing gown from French designer Maguy De Chadirac.

This is her first collection of Lingerie inspired by elegant pre-war Hollywood. Each beautiful piece comes gift wrapped in a signature black and gold box. Maguy is couture trained having worked for Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Yves St Laurent, and Christian Dior.

MENS STYLE- BUYING A SUIT

by Gabrielle on December 7, 2009

Brioni

Mens Style is never more important than when choosing a suit. Whether high street, designer or bespoke, the cut, fit and fabric make all the difference to looking great. So where do you go to get that shaken not stirred exquisite tailoring? Brioni is the coolest shop in Mayfair with fabulous suits.

Fabric, fabric, fabric soft wools with cashmere, silk mixes superbly cut create simply stunning suits. Worn by Bond for over 5 years. Fabulous.

Richard James

Samantha Cameron may be stepping out in M and S but David Cameron chooses bespoke designer of the year Richard James. Booked out everyday, Savile Row is where to go to get a suit that says discrete, classy and super stylish. However the key is the fabric looking at Savile Row, there is a lot of awful fabrics around. Mohair feels scratchy and cheap and is not, a lot of shiny fabrics that new look like they have been worn for months. Also plain boring pinstripes that have not changed in centuries and they look old fashioned.

Timothy Everest

For high street style Timothy Everest the bespoke tailor of David Beckham et al is designing for Marks and Spencer.

Reiss

My favourite on the high street is Reiss. Earlier this year I was interviewed by The Daily Express and CNN about what to wear for an interview. My view is that it is worth spending more money on a suit generally a reasonable suit starts at £500-£1000. The more you pay the better suit you get. This is at Reiss for £400 and is well styled. Notice the classic cut giving a waist, this is very flattering for rectangle and triangle shaped men. Not so good for larger men.

Oswald-Boateng2

For contemporary style I like Oswald Boatang, Segun Adelaja, Kiton and Dolce and Gabbanna. I met Oswald at London Fashion week , his taste is immaculate which is why he has been mens fashion director at Givenchy. But the shop is pants. Too dark and too pretentious by far. I am a Personal Shopper , I shop too much to be interested in shops where groups of men stand around, where you can’t see the clothes. Each shirt has it’s own little alcove like a shrine, please I am too busy to be bothered with this rubbish. The one button contemporary style looks amazing on triangle men as it accentuates the shoulders.

Dolce and Gabbanna 1AW09. menjpg

What if you have a bit of a tummy? The double breasted suit works well to broaden the shoulders and hide the tummy. Seen here at Dolce and Gabbanna

Giorgio Armani

Also traditional tailors recommend the waistcoat to hide the tummy. I personally think this looks old fashioned seen here at Giorgio Armani

Emporio Armani

A better option for bigger men is to choose a European style suit. These have less tailoring, no waist and are more roomy typically they have no back vents. I prefer this to waistcoats. Emporio Armani.

D&G XMAS PARTY DRESSES OF DESIRE

by Gabrielle on November 22, 2009

D&G1

Want a party dress that rocks without breaking the bank? Go to D&G. As a professional wardrobe editor I decided it was time to edit my own. After Roland Mouret the most dresses  I have are by D&G. Here is why.. This dress is in the shops without the overblown bow and the skirt is a gorgeous bronzy gold much brighter than the catwalk version. The top is a constructed corset giving a wonderful cleavage. If you are tall and slim this is a winner and both the top and  the bottom bell skirt gives added curves.

D&G2

Here is another winner for the tall and slim. This is beautiful burgundy silk combined with rich navy velvet. No belt on the stores version.

D&G3

Or combine a corset with skinny jeans. The store version is low cut- cleavage enhancing.

D&G4

Have a ball………in this for all out glamour.

D&G5

Hourglass women love D&G because the dresses have structure and show curves to perfection. This silk and cotton dress also has a gold zip running from base to neck, adding extra Pzazzzzz.

D&G6

Check out this luxurious midnight blue velvet blazer, so much more interesting than black.

D&G7

For the petite or those with a tummy this baby doll dress in chiffon looks amazing.

D&G8

Christmas rocks in a sexy lace mini dress.

D&G9

Scarlett Johansson sizzles sexily in a corset. Structure, glamour, lace, velvet, silk, brocade make  D&G clothes sexy, stylish and affordable!

WHAT TO WEAR NOW-PERSONAL STYLIST CHOICE AW09

by Gabrielle on November 5, 2009

Dolce and Gabbanna AW09

Dolce and Gabbana aw09

When Personal Shopping all my clients want a dream dress. One, that makes your heart sing. One that makes you look thinner, taller, more beautiful…… This is it. The instore version has no belt and is sleeveless. It comes in rippling black silk, dusky rose with burgundy, or fuschia pink. Dolce and Gabbana dresses are a big favourite of mine lots of structure makes everyone look amazing!!

Paul and Joe

Pierre Cardin for Paul and Joe

The fashion pack at London Fashion Week were all wearing sequin jackets. Alexander Shulman Editor of Vogue wore silver over a blue T Shirt. This is the nicest version I have seen. Midnight blue and fitted- really gorgeous.

DKNY

DKNY

For Xmas at DKNY a spectacular sizzling red number. This is so easy to wear, skims over the tummy, cut slim at the sides for maximum flattery, slims, elongates  and its fun!!

Balmain AW09

Balmain AW09

This is my personal favourite of the Balmain dresses. Sensational cut, sensational colour and pricey!! Lots of copies around but this is undoubtably the best.

Burberry Prorsum AW09

Burberry Prorsum AW09

Yesterday I was walking down Sloane Street with a friend who was taking photos for Vogue. I have lost count of the number of people I have seen wearing this dress……or the snood with black jeans and black top……. or the boots which I personally hate!! Add it together=maximum chic. Also often spotted the mac with the pie crust collar in soft grey.

Victoria Beckham AW09

Victoria Beckham AW09

We should all support our own and Brit Victoria Beckham has created an instant sell out collection. Everyone bought dull grey but look at the burgundy, much more interesting!

Pinko AW09

PINKO AW09

From chic high street giant Pinko this low backed, tight Balmain inspired dress, affordable, wearable chic.

alexander Wang Aw09

Another clever dress, Grecian inspired one shouldered in plum that will suit Autumn women. Cut to hide unwanted bumps from Alexander Wang.

Personal Shopper Choice:French Chic

by Gabrielle on October 9, 2009

Maje

Maje

Why do French women look so chic? They have a better choice of clothes is a good starting point. In the UK we have lots of high street “tat”, often great styles but in cheap frankly horrible fabrics.

agnes B

Agnes B

Or we have very very expensive designer fashion, c £1000+ for a great dress in great fabric. There is very little in between.

sandro

Sandro

I have long been a fan of Galerie Lafayette in Paris for this reason, and now some of these fantastic clothes are here…..

sonia rykiel

Sonia Rykiel

Stylish, affordable, wearable and…. in great fabrics. The UK high street could revitalise by learning from the French. No more polyester, badly cut, oversized waists, cheap shiny see through fabrics, buttons that fall off, shoes that break, dresses that crease even hanging in the shop. There is no pleasure in buying and wearing this stuff. So dont buy it.

10 ANNE FONTAINE

Anne Fontaine

Buy French from cutting edge chic to the classic perfect white shirts of Anne Fontaine. Vote against “tat”.

I have decided that I want to live in the South of France, I love the food, weather, people and the clothes. In the meantime boycott  all tat and buy French!!

Whenever I went to Galerie LaFayette in Paris, I would come home with Pinko!! Some of my most favourite clothes are from this shop. Look at this Tuxedo jacket beautifully tailored, peplum waist, fitted. Worn like this for a classic style or over a sweet black lace dress a la` Maddonna which is what I am wearing at the moment.
