Alexa Chung at Christopher Kane

If you wanted to experience the pure excitement of the Autumn Winter shows then there was only one place to be this year and that was Christopher Kane. Ideally you would have been sat on the front row somewhere between Alexa Chung and Yasmin Le Bon would have been sufficient for you to revel in the feeling of unexpectedness of attending London fashion week.

Christopher Kane

Kane’s “Liquid Collection” as he named it was all about wearable and sophisticated clothes, as with every Kane collection the designer communicated through the garments his childhood memories.

As the models streamed through, we all suddenly agreed that crochet is now definitely cool, the material was used on skirts and fitted cardigans in musky greens, browns, turquoise and grey, and it was boldly printed on leather skirts and tops, it peeked through plain collarless coats and jackets, making an original and unique Kane statement “keep the silhouette simple”.

Then came the plastic which we saw in the unusual trims that were inspired by those transparent liquid filled pencil cases of his school years, It encircled with its Blue, green and red liquid the pockets and the collars, it appeared in lines on the bodices the waist, and the edges of dresses, which on a few occasions became backless or exposed the midriff, there was a touch of gathered black netting here and there too.

The bags appeared in rectangular plastic clutch bags to match. With the soundtrack shifting to the sound of raindrops it was the time of sequin dresses with water drop-like appliques, in the same blue/green and red hue, shimmering past us with perfectly appointed Mary Janes.

It was another fantastic accomplishment for Kane who was the winner of this year’s BFC Vogue Fashion Fund, and it was evident by the overwhelming applause that emanated from the location of Camp Vogue at the show.

Jade Parfitt Christopher Kane Stylist Reviews AW2011

Jade Parfitt in one of Kane’s last season show stopping neon green ensembles had already picked out her favourites to wear to the show next year, well with the collection that was just shown I can guarantee it will be something, irrevocably cool, original and stylish, or should I say very very British.

House of Holland

If Tom Ford had a mischievous, British son I’m sure it would be Henry Holland! Limitlessly talented and iconic, designer Henry Holland seems to never put a foot wrong. Whether its his mass following of readers on Vogue.com, packed out clubs to hear him DJ, or his rows of adoring fans cueing round the block to see his next collection, Henry Holland is like the cool kid in school that everyone wants to hang out with and be around!

House of Holland’s Autumn/Winter ’11 collection is full of lust worthy items, and soon to be trends that accentuate Henry’s natural creative ability but also the quality of his work and his stylishly considered use of playfulness. It seems our little Henry is all grown up and perhaps ready to receive the recognition he deserves for his skill and design not just his popularity.

Bingo themed prints and patchwork crochet were styled out in true HOH form with girly pearl detail and hand drawn budgerigar designs floating down the catwalk. Peaking out were previews of his new collection of famous slogan tees, sure to be an instant sell-out.

Buyers and stylists were eagerly watching and taking down notes, and if they jump on board with what feels like everyone else in London already has, House of Holland is sure to have a very good year. xx

The Little Pale Dress

by Lauren Waine on November 28, 2010

Another strong contender for the LBD’s fashion crown has emerged, as dresses go pale and interesting for the winter. Celebrities including Alexa Chung, Keira Knightly and Kate Winslet have all recently made the LPD stylish Red Carpet uniform. Champagne, Ivory, Vanilla and Pearl hues dominated the catwalks, with designers such as Marc Jacobs, Alberta Ferretti and Diane Von Furstenberg all opting for creamy shades.

Fair-skinned fashionistas need not fear this season’s muted palette, as light shades of gold give warmth to porcelain skin, giving a fresh, youthful glow.

(L-R; Alberta Ferretti, Marc Jacobs, Dior)

New Nudes may be this season’s chicest alternative to the Little Black Dress, but if you’re still not convinced, just follow these simple rules to conquer this barely-there dress code:
Compliment your skin tone; selecting the right pale shade is the most important aspect of the trend. English roses should opt for peach hues whilst darker skin types should choose richer, caramel shades.

Alexa Chung White Dress 398x600 The Little Pale Dress

Keep it simple;

Stick to one neutral shade to avoid the risk of the colours washing each other out. Embellishment should be subtle so not to overpower the look.

Add texture;

LPD’s on the catwalk came in a variety of textures, from floaty, weightless chiffon, to body-con Lycra, making the trend both interesting and wearable.
Don’t be afraid of colour:

Adding bold elements to a nude dress can instantly update this trend. Whether it be neon accessories or vibrant lipstick shades, an unexpected pop of colour can keep the trend modern and minimalist without washing you out. During the daytime, wearing a pair of classic black sunglasses or striking smoky eye makeup would be a way to counteract any overly cutesy pale dress. One carefully-chosen accessory is enough to alter the look completely to suit your individual style. The jury is still out on whether to pair them with American Tan tights though.

The Chanel Jacket

Beyonce Chanel Jacket

I bought my first Chanel Jacket in my 20′s. It is red, vintage and absolutely beautiful.  Top of my list for items every woman should have or aspire to have is a Chanel jacket. Here is my homage to a classic that has been going strong for over 80 years. Here is Beyonce showing how to wear it with shorts and Louboutin’s. I think that this is not chic but I love the jacket!

Leading Personal Stylist Gabrielle Teare  at Burberry Prorsum critiques Celebrity Style. Photographed by Darryl Vides Kennedy. Here is Emily Watson in Burberry, as their new face she stole the show and outclassed the fashionistas, simply stunning! HIT AND HOT!!

Jaquetta Wheeler chose Velvet!! Must have been reading my blog!! Velvet in regal royal purple looked amazing and accentuated her aristocratic face. Lovely!! HIT HIT.

Burberry30 2 351x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Mary Kate Olsen dress needed a short chic jacket,  not this winter black coat, and the glasses are too heavy for her face, boots look wrong with the elegance of the dress and indeed the warm evening. MISS MISS.

Burberry28 2 282x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Model Agyness Deyn in Burberry looked beautiful but just too like a 50’s housewife wearing a party frock. The pop socks look plain and awful, the brogue boots are too heavy for the dress. The jacket’s padded shoulders are Spring Summer defined but the colour clashes with the dress, as does the bag. Overall MISS MISS.

Burberry74 2 398x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Liv Tyler wore a boyfriend jacket and short skirt and looked wonderful. Close up her luminous skin and just got out of bed hair made her utterly beautiful. And this is an amazing photograph from Darryl- well done!! HIT

Burberry4 2 398x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Lee Na Young the Korean actress wore a 50’s style dress, but the  heavy winter too- warm wool coat made her look pear shaped and short. This look is not helped by sturdy boots which also shorten the leg. Leave this style to the naturally tall and leggy. MISS.

Burberry57 2 376x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Jasmine Guiness looked chic, glamorous  and tall in a Chinese Nehru collar jacket over matching coloured dress. The colours beautifully celebrated her dark glossy hair. The black clutch and oversized pearl ring added elegance and feminity. HIT!!

Burberry35 22 398x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Presenter Donna Air wore a bronze dress that looked as if it was made from a dish scourer!  The DULL DULL colour  did not suit her skin tone. The badly fitting skirt did not flatter as the A line was too wide, and  the boots killed the outfit. MISS MISS!!!! Come see Gabrielle Teare  Personal Stylist and learn the colours and shapes that suit you.

Burberry67 2 398x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

This is a very interesting choice of dress for Lady Victoria Hervey, the silver does not suit her skin tone. However she has gold thread in it and a stunning gold necklace which add warmth and allow her to literally shine. HIT HIT!! Next time choose gold, less effort and a better effect. This is the second time in two days she has worn gold and silver together.

Burberry6 2 444x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

The normally uber-chic Carine Roitfeld Editor of French Vogue has broken some major style rules here. Whilst being in fashion, the combination of deep V neckline and shoulder pads create a triangle effect and accentuate her rather pointed chin. MISS MISS! Needs a  Fashion Stylist!

Burberry5 2 398x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Peter Mandleson, the Prince of Darkness trying to pretend that brown and beige go together and no one will notice this.  A large proportion of men are colour blind, but trust me women always notice.   Needs mens styling! MISS.

Burberry16 2 398x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Alexa Chung in Burberry Prorsum looked amazing!! HIT HIT. Dress and Mac work, the colours compliment each other and her skin tone. Fabulous.

Burberry40 21 301x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Anna Wintour is clearly having a gold moment since she has worn it every time I saw her this week!! However, it suits her skin tone and hair, the gold jewellery compliments and adds feminity. The sunglasses look wrong and slightly ridiculous, it was 7.30 in the evening and dark!! This is not Chic.

The only other person I have seen wearing sun glasses at night is Jack Nicholson and he looked equally ridiculous. However when he laughed and showed his  sexy vulpine teeth all the women just did not care. Funny that!!

MISS MISS MISS!  ANNA,  Purleese accessories should suit the occasion and that includes sunglasses.

Burberry85 2 398x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

I like Victoria Beckham she is an Aries like me and is warm, funny and often looks amazing. One of my favourite quotes, to Naomi Campbell when asked “Why do people call you posh? Victoria replied “Why do people call you beautiful? Love it!!

Victoria often looks fab and her clothes line is great as well. The first season the material was shoddy and I personally hated the zips running down to the hemline, made the dress so hard to put on. This season her collection looks great and is much better quality.

However, Victoria looks like an emaciated waif in this. Stick to body con and waisted tight numbers that suit the hourglass. MISS MISS

Burberry21 2 344x600 CELEBRITY WATCH:THE BURBERRY PRORSUM SHOW HIT OR MISS?

Freda Pinto wowed the jaded and tired Fashion week crowd in Burberry Prorsum. Shoes were to die for. Fantastic! HIT HIT
