How to start a successful image consultant business

Gabrielle Teare

1. Love Fashion

To be a successful image consultant you have to love fashion. My personal stylists and I stay aware of the trends by visiting London Fashion Week shows and doing research at the start of each season and before every shopping expedition.

2. Have an “eye”

Be honest with yourself do you really have an eye for style? It is not enough to like shopping you have to be stylish, you are the product here. I can teach you to be an image consultant but the eye is your own.

3. Get training

I have worked with many fashion stylists they do not  make good  personal stylists. What they do is create photographs. I have also worked with people with no training; all of them were useless. I do group and corporate styling and for I only work with people who are properly trained.

Training enhances your inate style ability. It teaches you body shapes, the different colouring types, and how to recognise clients individual style. It is no good dressing people in your style, you have to style them in theirs. Mens styling is very rewarding but rest assured men know loads about men’s fashion, and tailoring  and so must you.

Training gives you confidence too, as you have styled lots of models when you start styling you know their colouring and what will suit them.

At Gabrielle Teare we teach students intensively doing theory in the morning and working with models in the afternoon. I am an experienced trainer, I ran many training courses for FTSE companies. I want all my students to leave able to style and to run a successful business.

4. Have a great website

Your website is your shop window, so it has to be creative. When I am training we look at many personal styling sites. Many are not creative. So get a killer website be creative, and look good in your photographs. I do not understand how a photo of coat hangers indicates creativity.

5 Marketing

Learn how to market. I teach business planning and advertising. It is not enough to be a good personal stylist you have to market yourself. Make noise and you will be successful.

Style Tips : How to wear belt this Fall 2014

MiuMiu AW2014

This autumn learn the power of belts. This is a simple shape changer on an amazing coat from Miu Miu.

Buy great belts when you see them, Anne Fontaine, Emporio Armani  have amazing ones, spend a bit of money and aim to keep for years.

Chloe SW2104

Simple stunningly effective on a dress from Chloe.

Balmain 2014

Take away the stunning gold belt and this looks shapeless, add it and you rock from Balmain.

Lanvin 2014

The 1960′s prom dress can make shorter women look hippy this is a look that must be belted, this is fun, flirty from Lanvin.

Vionnet 2014

Fashion Trends AW2013 Skirts Are Us!

Belstaff AW2013

This is a trend I am already wearing, simple box pleats and kilts are fun, flirty, easy to wear and very flattering. Here shown in leather another massive trend by Belstaff.

At Jil Sander skirts were long and combined with a masculine minimal top.

Rochas AW2013

Rochas went back to Dior New Look with wide 1950′s fashion inspired prom skirts.

Balenciaga AW2103

Balenciaga has a superb collection with long streamlined pencil skirts love the 1920′s T-bar shoes.

Chanel AW2103

Chanel have taken the box pleat skirt and added over the knee boots and a ultra long jacket best on taller girls.

So what does this look like on real people? Longer skirts and masculine tops disguise your figure if small be careful.

Done well this look can look amazing! I love the hats, matching bags and huge well deserved smiles. Bravo Ladies!!xx

Stylish work wardrobe 2013

personal shopper, personal shopping , what to wear for work

At London Fashion Week we saw some very stylish outfits for work and beyond. I love this, the shoes are also fab  and the blouse is demure and ladylike for work. Brilliant !

If you have a creative or fashion role these are two great outfits. The dress on the left looks amazing with the pink coat. I like the pencil skirt, white jacket combo but would combine with a more opaque blouse.

Here is another well thought out stylish suit. The green tones are echoed in the bag and shoes without being too matchy matchy. We loved this.

Super bright, super chic great for an advertising, fashion role.

Man Repellent? New Season Fashion Victim clothes to avoid, Choose style not fashion ladies!

Some trends are best left to the super models or those over 6 feet. As a personal stylist sometimes fashion can be unwearable for those of us that are petite.  Here we have a sleeveless totally impractical, and wierd looking coat from Edun. Note to designers, I have  three times as many small and petite clients than those over 5 10″. Coats shoul be viewed as an investment to last for several years and not as a fashion piece, choose style ladies.

Rochas Cocoon Coat

When something does not look good on a model trust me it will not look good on you. Grungy brown from Rochas.

Totally impractical and over long sleeveless coat from Chloe.

Richard Nicholl Cocoon Coat

Masculine from Richard Nicholl.

Victoria Beckham

Then we have Victoria Beckham  looking embarrassed as she well she might, for producing this completely shapeless unflattering blanket cut into a dress. Do not go there girls.

Loius Vuitton

Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuittton has produced one of the most unwearable collections to date, pyjamas and nighties combined with huge coats like this.
