London Welsh

Sometimes it is such a hard life being a stylist surrounded by gorgeous men!

Here is me styling London Welsh at House of Fraser Richmond. They were so massive and had huge feet we had real problems trying to get clothes that fit!!

Three of them came with black eyes so I sent them to make-up, which they hated until ……..they saw the makeup artists at Lancome. Ha!!

Mens Style To Impress : What to Wear Now

by Gabrielle on August 19, 2010

I love styling men, there are so many fantastic clothes out there. Men should wear great colours that suit them, cool designs and expensive shoes. I like Etro for shirts, jackets and coats. This is a great easy coat to wear for Autumn days.

Leather is hot for this Autumn. Zegna make great suits for a classic fit, and this season check out the leather shearling jackets. Prada, D and G, Etro, Armani all have versions. This jacket and chunky polo neck will make you look broader, taller and is very sexy.

Lanvin rocks! Each season visit for cool jackets, fabulous suits and uber stylish ties.If you have not yet been to Savile Row this season is the time to go.

Cheap shoes will drive women away trust me. The number of conversations women have about tasteless shoes would be a revelation to men. Several of my friends have rejected advances purely because of shoes! Prada make fantastic trainers and loafers. Alexander McQueen does a privately ordered range at Harrods. Cheap shoes cheapen the whole outfit. Buy less and buy good. For work shoes Church’s and Prada make nice shoes that if you are typical of the men I know will last for 10 years or more. Cost per wear becomes negligible. Women’s shoes cost far more and last about 6 months!

Also at Prada this season is lovely wearable autumnal colours. Combine a blue shirt with a soft brown jumper and jacket for effortless style. The jumper in the shops is longer!

Cashmere jumpers are lovely, and there are great colours out there for men, Dunhill, Aquascutum, with their new design team, Armani and Ralph Lauren all make fantastic designs. They are seriously nice to wear and soft to the touch- cuddly. Try the ones styled with a collar like a long sleeve polo shirt. Also hitting the shops are ski jumpers this is seriously nice from D and G.

Mens styling for very tall men is harder, there are many men out there over 6’4”, it has taken me ages to source clothes for them. High and Mighty is a good source but the suit quality and selection for slim men is poor. I suggest their Ralph Lauren range and to go elsewhere for bespoke tailoring for suits and shirts. The Italian suit maker Sartoria is great and reasonably priced. Segun Adelaja has clothes to dream about. Very elegant and sophisticated, classic with a twist. Timothy Everest, does a range at Marks and Spencers.

Ties again should be expensive, forget  polyester, big spots or “funny”ties go for silk. Buy Hermes, Lanvin, Salvatore Ferragamo, to instantly upgrade your look under £100.

Beauty Buzz: What to buy now

Perricone MD launches Cold Plasma Eye, a nutrient-rich, drenching eye cream that makes an excellent base for make-up.Formulated with the revolutionary delivery system of Cold Plasma, this breakthrough eye cream sets a new standard for skin care technology. I love the face cream and was keen to try this, I think I look brighter after 4 weeks!

Burberry have launched a range of make-up exclusive to Harrods this summer. These fab lipsticks have gorgeous colours and a magnetic top that keeps it on. In a burnished bronze they are shiny, elegant and classy. I love them.

For a super luxurious travel treat try Aromatherapy Associates wonderful ranges. I loved this and used in on a weekend break. It has 4 bath and shower blends that smell amazing and will look great in the hotel bathroom as well. With natural oils such as peppermint, camomile, geranium. These will soothe, relax or pick you up depending on your mood. Lovely!

Recently I have become a big fan of Environ and was thrilled to try their new masque. This is the ideal skin preparation product, which performs three actions with one application.  The masque incorporates the finest clay to absorb excess oil while simultaneously lifting away dead skin cells and improving hydration. It contains Kaolin to absorb oil, glycerine to hydrate and mositurise and tocopherol a vitamin E form to hydrate and provide antioxidants.

Nubo have released Retinol Boost this is from an innovative beauty company that offers high end cosmeceutical-strength products. The effective formulations, combined with cutting edge technology, provide a luxury skincare regime that is free of parabens, SLS, irritating petro-chemicals, synthetic colours and fragrances. The retinal boost offers  high strength retinol as you can get long proven to benefit skin. My skin glowed after using this and the fine lines were softened as well.

Diary of a Fashion Intern at the Paris Pre Collections

by Ella Catliff on August 15, 2010

My name is Ella, I am 19 years old and I have made it my mission to break into the exciting world of fashion. For the past month I have been working in Paris for an up-and-coming designer brand called BaronBaronne. My stay (not entirely unintentionally) coincided with Paris Pre-collection fashion week so I was lucky enough to have my first real experience working in the Industry not only in the style capital of Paris but also during one of the most important times in the fashion calendar. Here is the low-down on what I did, saw, learnt and wore during my Parisian intern experience.

Naturally I was hell-bent on making a good first impression on the designers for whom I’d be working, so a fair bit of time and effort went into choosing the perfect outfit. My role of inviting the buyers from top boutiques and department stores all over the world to the showroom, and then persuading them to actually come, did make me a little nervous. I did find the time to browse the look books, mood boards, sketches, samples, and shoots for their past collections. The sheer amount of time, effort, money and emotion that goes into producing a collection is unbelievable. I have also come to the conclusion that being a fashion buyer would probably be the best career a girl could dream of. There are the obvious perks of the job, such as attending all the most desirable fashion shows, shmoozing at glamorous after-parties, and generally getting paid to select the choicest pieces from the most covetable collections each season.

Juan Antonio Avalos Barcelona

Week 2 I got on the case of Matches, Browns, Feathers, Dover Street Market etc. Basically anywhere I thought might be interested in a little injection of French avant-guard style. Then on the first day of the precollections we arrived bright and early at Galerie Cadain, a lovely, spacious venue in the 4th arrondisement. A few hours of unpacking, steaming, and general organising later the gallery looked magnificent.

I was frantic waiting  for the bags, at last  they arrived a casual 4 hours late… but with their classic shapes, tasteful buckle detailing and buttery soft leather they were oh-so worth the wait. I also often had to wait for no- show buyers,a lesson in optimism over realism.

Baron Baronne

Finally fashion week and my days as an intern for BaronBaronne came to an end. I have learnt more about the fashion industry (not all of it too pretty) than I would have thought possible and fallen head-over-heels in love with the city… watch this space for future tales of my Parisian fashion adventures.  ella-lapetiteanglaise.blogspot.com
