My first time in NYC: I was so excited about it, not sleeping and daydreaming about venues, vibes and especially the NewYorkers.
I have spent the first week walking around the city as Alice In Wonderland, looking up at the skycrapers, spotting the people on streets, observing the folks for picking up which ones were stylish in the Big Apple.
Lower East Side, Williamsburg, Soho, West Village, Chelsea…in every boutique I have been I have found him, it’ s been impossible to me to not notice it.
I knew he’ s Anna Wintour’s “ pupil”, since he launched his first full women’s collection in 2007, followed by a diffusion line of pre-weathered cotton tees, tanks, and T-shirt dresses in spring 2009, as well as a shoes line of towering platform sandals and a handbags collection, and now a collaboration with Gap as well.
He has been “praised to the skies” from fashion editors from all over the world, adored from the star system and has become a leading designer, but I could not image that the streets of NYC were overrun by a string of ALEXANDER WANG’ s “ models off duty” ( as he calls the girls who embody his unique design aesthetic on street style…).
And looking at again his A/ W 09-10 collection I have realized that he has transformed his chic tough-girl ( that personifies his ready-to-wear collections as his muse, the model Erin Wasson) -in between a rocker and a biker ( we know that NewYorkers love riding) you can spot cycle shorts worn or displayed all over in American Apparel you can find a range of neon shades in Nylon or Cotton Spandex Jersey. In different fabrics, prints, colours and styles.
Perfect in the day time with a loose t- shirt and boots or for a new twist in the evening with a long blazer and stilettos.
Alexander is a hit once again…and I haven’t resisted his call.
