MENS FASHION NEWS NICO KUBISCH WINS BEST MENSWEAR

by Gabrielle on November 28, 2008

NICO KUBISCH

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

AWARD BEST MENSWEAR

“For my Spring/ Summer 09 collection I was drawing inspiration from gentlemen’s sports,

particularly tennis in the 1920s and 30s, where sportswear was just a softer

version of formal menswear with it’s tailored jackets and trousers.

Transforming this concept into a more contemporary style I created the look

of my Spring/Summer 09 collection.”- Nico Kubisch

Nico graduated with an award winning collection. Further training at Alexander McQueen and with Saville Row tailor Grieves and Hawkes has further honed his sharp tailoring skills. Nico Kubisch launched his own line Nico Kubisch in Summer 2007. He was invited to show at New York Fashion week and succeeded in winning Best Editorial and Best Menswear for Spring/ Summer 09, cementing his position as one of Britain’s most coveted cutting edge designers.

The palette ranges from white, ivory and grey with cobalt blue giving a quirky twist on classic mens styling.

FASHION NEWS VINTAGE ACADEMY LAUNCHES 24TH NOV

by Gabrielle on November 21, 2008

Vintage Academe, to be launched on November 24, is a brilliant new website and magazine for lovers of fine vintage clothing and accessories which in time will grow to be treasured heirlooms and prove, at the very least, wise investments.

Fashions come and go but true couture and iconic designer labels are a joy to wear and – as with any great art – stand the test of time. Think Alaia to Worth, Balenciaga to Yves St Laurent, Lanvin to Valentino, Dior to Pucci rubbing sartorial shoulders with exquisite unlabelled finds from the 19th Century to 2000 and you have Vintage Academe!

Retail guru Lucille Lewin of Whistles and Liberty fame brings her expertise to Vintage Academe as Chairman whilst founder Clare Nicholls adds a passion for couture fashion to her skills in finance and media. Conceived in 2007, the website is filled with desirable pieces, handpicked by Clare for their beauty and relevance to today, and edited under the guidance of Lucille. Each item has been lovingly cleaned, restored and cared for by experts before being included.

Vintage Academe is more than a mere e-tailer. ‘Academes’ or salons will be held at stylish venues on a regular basis to allow clients to view and try on the pieces, preview new ‘finds’ and meet the people involved.

The official launch of the site will be on the evening of 24th November 2008 at the Weiss Gallery in Jermyn Street (by invitation only). The first salon is planned for early 2009. The site should be checked for details and regular Academe updates.

Personal Stylist Gabrielle Teare says “I love vintage Chanel and John Galliano, lots of my clients love vintage also, there are so few outlets to buy it this is a great concept.”

Gabriele Colangelo assigns Prêt-À-Porter Collection To Castor Srl for  Fall/Winter 2009-2010 Season     17 Nov 08

Starting from the Fall/Winter 2009-2010 collection, Castor Srl, on the basis of a license agreement lasting 9 years, will take care of the production and distribution of the Women’s collection of Gabriele Colangelo, young Milanese designer who officially launched his label during Milano Moda Donna Spring/Summer 2009. He represents one of the most interesting, gifted and promising individuals of the new Made in Italy elegance.

Born in Milan on the 27th of February 1975, Gabriele Colangelo was undoubtedly “born into the profession”, as he is the heir of a family that has owned for generations a specialised fur workshop characterised by bespoke culture, and by delightful craftsmanship in processing techniques and use of materials.

After obtaining his high school diploma in classical subjects, and while he was taking a Degree in Antique Literature, Gabriele Colangelo took part in a competition organised by the Italian National Chamber of Fashion, winning a scholarship as Fashion Stylist.

In the course of a few years he gathered a lot of experience. For four years he collaborated with Itierre Spa, designing the Versace Jeans Donna line. After this first job, he worked with Versace, with Roberto Cavalli for the Just Cavalli Donna project and with the Mariella Burani Fashion Group, for whom he was Artistic Director for the Amuleti J line.

In February of 2008, during Milano Moda Donna, his label Gabriele Colangelo debuted. The young designer introduced a capsule-collection, in which his genetic propensity for craftsmanship in fur was combined with embroidery. Finally, in July, he won “Who is on next?” for prêt-à-porter, a competition invented and managed by AltaRoma together with Vogue Italia, aimed at seeking new creative talents in fashion and accessories. He will take part in Milano Moda Donna Spring/Summer 2009.

Nothing to Wear? Does your heart sink when you open your wardrobe? Where is that hot pink Ungaro dress? In order to get the most out of your wardrobe the first step is to know what is in it. Amongst the unworn and the unloved will be great clothes if only you could find them.

Declutter

In the UK we wear only 20% of what we buy. This is a staggering waste of money and means that we can’t find the great LBD when we need it. Wardrobes need tough love, throw out anything you have never worn or that does not fit or suit you.  If you can’t face this alone use a Personal Stylist to help you.

Sort by Category.

Long dresses, short dresses, skirts, trousers etc. Then sort by colour. This makes life easy rather than scrabbling through random items we can then find the pencil skirt in one minute. Get rid of anything that is not in your colour palette. Your clothes should all co-ordinate with each other  so finding tops to go with skirts becomes simplicity itself.

Discard the unfashionable.

Trends change. The quickest way to update your wardrobe is to buy new shoes. Dated shoes and clothes will date you so bin them. If you keep things hoping that they come back into fashion they may then not be age appropriate.

Why are you keeping clothes you don’t like?

When I do Wardrobe Management so many women have clothes that they do not even like in their wardrobes. The usual reason for keeping them is because they were expensive or a statement designer piece. Sell them, and make a vow to only buy clothes that you love. Clothes that make your heart sing!

Does it Fit You?

“This is for when I lose weight.” or ” I might get pregnant again.” Have a wardrobe of clothes that you can wear now. If you lose a lot of weight studies show that one of the ways to keep it off is to get rid of your old wardrobe. This is a massive financial and motivational incentive.

What is your lifestyle?

Many women have lots of work clothes but few casual clothes and vice versa. Think about the percentage of clothes you have and it will show you where you are lack items. Perhaps you have only trouser suits for work. One of my clients had only pin striped suits. There are many other styles to choose that would create a more varied wardrobe.

Does the style suit me?

Have a Style Consult. If you keep buying clothes that you never wear probably they do not suit your colouring or body shape. The advice you receive will save you money in the long term as you can wear all of your wardrobe.
